Gorgi Krlev is the Associate Dean and Professor of Sustainability as well as Member of the Executive Committee at ESCP Business School. He also serves as the Director of ESCP’s Research Centre on Environmental and Societal Transitions (RESET).

He holds a Visiting Professorship at Politecnico di Milano and is a Visiting Fellow of Kellogg College, University of Oxford. Gorgi earned a PhD in management research from the University of Oxford and holds a habilitation (HDR) from Paris 1 Université Panthéon-Sorbonne. He previously worked as a senior researcher at the University of Heidelberg within the university’s sociology department.

In his research, he deals with social entrepreneurship, social innovations, impact, and sustainable finance. He has a particular focus on how cross-sector collaborations and new field emergence promote societal transformations and contribute to addressing environmental and social sustainability challenges.

Social Innovation: Comparative Perspectives received a best book award from the Public and Nonprofit Division of the Academy of Management (AOM). Social Economy Science: Transforming the Economy & Making Society More Resilient won the Virginia A. Hodgkinson Book Prize.

He has won numerous other awards for his research, teaching and impact work. Most prominently:

  • Top 40-Under-40 in Science and Society in Germany selected by CAPITAL Magazin.

  • First Prize by the Roman Herzog Institute (RHI) for research — on social impact — that matters to society.

  • Responsible Business Education Award by the Financial Times conferred during the World Economic Forum (WEF) for TRANSFORM, a collaborative, open-source platform on innovation and entrepreneurship for sustainability.

  • Best 40-Under-40 MBA Professor by Poets&Quants (Times Higher Education).

  • Civil Society Research Impact Award by the International Society for Third Sector Research (ISTR) for putting social innovation and social entrepreneurship on the German policy agenda.

Gorgi serves on the Board of Directors of Euclid Network, the international network of impact-driven leaders supported by the European Commission.
